The Sprintax Story
Every year, more than 1 million people travel to the US to study and work temporarily. We noticed a gap developing in the market – a demand for an easy-to-use, online software that simplifies nonresident tax withholding for US education institutions.
In January 2014 Sprintax was formed to fill this gap!
Sprintax is part of the Taxback Group, a company that has been preparing nonresident taxes since 1996 and expanded around the world over the last 23 years. In the last five years, the Sprintax team has grown rapidly – driven by a demand from schools and universities for a simplified tax withholding process for their international students and staff.
While, the Sprintax head office is in New York City, our team travels all over the US, speaking to staff and students at universities and trade shows – offering workshops, webinars and demos on US taxes for nonresidents.

Terry Clune is the founder of The Taxback Group and CEO of Sprintax. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Clune came up with the idea of a tax preparation company while working in Germany as a student.
Terry found himself paying about 50-60% tax on his income in Germany and so when he finished his construction job he started to figure out how to get that tax back. Back in Ireland, Clune processed tax refund applications for his friends and other students.
The service proved popular and after Clune graduated he employed a staff of three and opened a small office in Dublin. The company experienced a rapid expansion and developed a range of new services for a diverse range of clients.
The Taxback Group now has a global presence of 32 offices in 24 countries.
Enda is based in New York and has been assisting universities and nonresident international students and scholars with US tax withholding and Federal and State tax preparation for over four years.
He has been awarded the IRS VITSA Foreign National qualification, which means he is certified to prepare taxes and perform quality reviews of returns for foreign residents in the US.
He is currently studying to become an IRS Enrolled Agent. Over the last three years Enda has delivered more than 150 tax workshops all across the US. Sprintax has assisted over 300,000 students and scholars during the same time.
